A folder on your computer in a project

A project can have a folder on your computer: in the project's menu (the three dots on the project in the sidebar) choose "Link a folder on this PC…" and pick the folder (in the browser this needs Chrome or Edge; the desktop app opens a folder dialog). The models in the project's chats can then work with its files: name a file in your message ("what does src/app.js do?") and its content comes along, and the model can look through the folder, read and search files by itself. Ask "where is the invoice from March?" or "finn bildet av stranda" and GlirOS searches the folder itself first -- file and folder names, paths, and the pictures' descriptions in pictures.xml (made when you ask it to index the folder's pictures) -- and gives the model just the matches; the model can search the same way when it needs a file. It can't change anything on its own: a change it proposes shows up under the answer as a card with "Show changes" (the difference) and "Apply" -- only Apply writes the file (a replaced file's old version is kept in Files and versions). The same goes for renaming or moving, copying (also files of the chat into the folder, by name), making folders and deleting; many such changes at once come as one batch -- one card listing every step, checked in order before anything happens (a name freed in one step can be used in the next), and one "Apply all" that does them in order. A deleted file goes to the project's trash (a hidden .gliros-trash folder inside it), where the Files panel's Trash section can restore it or empty it for good. You can do all of this yourself too in the Files panel (the buttons on each file, New folder, Save to the project folder), and a folder file opened in the side panel and edited is saved back. The model also gets a map of the folder's code (functions and classes with their lines). It can't run programs, and nothing outside the folder can be reached. With a cloud model, GlirOS asks once per project before any file can be sent to that company. The folder chip next to the chat title shows the project and its folder; the Files panel lists the folder's files. In the browser, after a restart GlirOS may need your permission again: click the chip.

This guide is the same text GlirOS itself uses to answer questions about GlirOS.
