How notifications work

GlirOS can tell you that something finished, needs you or failed, also when you are in another chat or GlirOS isn't in front. It is on from GlirOS 0.1.0.

Where they show

• The bell at the top keeps a list of them. Click one to go to what it is about: the chat, the plan, the file or the tool.
• Inside GlirOS, a small note shows for a moment when you are somewhere else in the app.
• Desktop app: when GlirOS isn't in front, a notification comes from the tray icon, with a dot on the icon and on the taskbar button.
• Web version: when the tab is in the background, a browser notification, once you have allowed it. GlirOS never asks for that by itself, only when you click to allow it.

When you are already looking at the thing it is about, you get nothing: you can see it.

What sends them

Long answers, finished plans, downloads, media jobs (with the percent while they run), timers and reminders, and tools. A tool's notice always shows the tool's own name (and "home-made" for a home-made tool), and a tool can't make a sound inside the app or look more urgent than others.

Tips

From GlirOS 0.1.9, after a quiet while in a chat, GlirOS may show a short tip under the last answer about a tool the chat used. Show examples gives a few things to try with it; a button fills the message box without sending. At most one tip a day and once per tool in a chat, never in a private (incognito) chat. Settings > Notifications > Show tips turns them off. The examples are the tool's own, so a tool maker's starter examples are what people see first.

You decide

Settings > Notifications: quiet hours, do not disturb, sound, which kinds, and which tools may notify you. You can also switch a kind or a tool off straight from a notice in the bell's list. Outside the app only the title is shown, unless you turn on Show details, because others may see your screen.

A private (incognito) chat shows and keeps nothing. The list keeps up to 200 notices for 30 days.
