How it works
Better prompts
Ten short tips for writing to an AI model, so you get the answer you want the first time.
A prompt is what you write to the model. A clear one gets a better answer, from a small model on your PC and from a strong one in the cloud alike. GlirOS's own short guide:
The ten tips
- Say what you want and why: the goal, and who it is for.
- Give the facts the answer needs (names, numbers, the text itself); don't make the model guess.
- Say the format: a list, a table, an e-mail, JSON, about how long.
- Show one or two short examples of what a good answer looks like.
- Set the limits: tone, length, what to leave out, what must not change.
- Split a big job into steps, and ask for one step at a time.
- For a picture: the subject, the style, the light and colours, the framing.
- For a video: what moves and how, the length in seconds, the pace, the sound.
- For code: the language, where it runs, the input and output, and how you will test it.
- Ask the model to say what it isn't sure of, rather than guess.
In GlirOS: "refine this prompt"
Write "refine this prompt:" followed by your words, and GlirOS helps you make a better one: a larger model gets these tips and writes the prompt; with a small model, GlirOS asks a few questions in a form and writes the prompt itself. Use this prompt puts it in the message box, where you can change it or send it. See Which model you are talking to.
Why GlirOS has its own guide
A model only knows what it was trained on, so an older or smaller model can give dated advice about prompts. These tips are GlirOS's own, the same in the app as here. How GlirOS leads each kind of model: How GlirOS works with different models.
